Take Charge of My Heart' Is the Quirky Rom-Com Hit You Need to Stream Right Now

When a new romantic comedy features a wealthy corporate heir with an artificial heart and a scriptwriter who shoots electricity from her hands after a childhood lightning strike, it sounds like an over-the-top sci-fi gimmick.

Yet, Netflix’s new 10-episode series Take Charge of My Heart is turning out to be one of the most charming and talked-about hits of the season.

Based on the web novel Nareul Chungjeonhaejwo, the show steps away from dark thrillers and heavy dramas, offering viewers pure, lighthearted fun.

Take Charge of My Heart

A High-Voltage Premise

The story follows Baek Ho-rang, a rich executive whose high-tech artificial heart is running low on power. During a hospital blackout, he accidentally bumps into Na Bo-bae, a writer who has spent her life wearing rubber gloves because a childhood lightning strike left her body with a continuous electric charge.

The twist is that Bo-bae’s electrical current doesn't harm Ho-rang—it recharges his artificial heart.

To survive the next three months before surgery, Ho-rang signs a contract keeping Bo-bae close by as his literal "human battery." That sets off a chain of accidental close encounters, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry.

Why Viewers Are Tuning In

Lead actors Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin bring warmth and humor to their roles. Kim handles the arrogant-yet-vulnerable corporate heir routine with ease, while Chae gives her character a sweet, relatable charm.

The show is elevated by a fantastic supporting cast, including Shin Do-hyun as a sharp corporate rival and veteran actress Kim Mi-kyung as a formidable group chairwoman, adding layers of family tension and office politics to the mix.

Running at just 10 episodes, the series avoids the slow pacing and dragged-out misunderstandings common in traditional dramas.

Beneath the slapstick comedy of accidental shocks and contract clauses, the series explores a tender message about loneliness, the fear of vulnerability, and how human connection can heal even the most guarded hearts.
